So close to the sun
Are you an early riser? If so, then here in priceless land you have the chance to be the first people in Germany to see the sun in the morning. That may sound unique to many outsiders. For us it goes without saying. Because the sun rises first here in Germany. We are not only the easternmost district in Germany, we are also the most punctual. Our clocks are the most accurate. Because the 15th meridian, which determines the time for Central Europe, runs directly through Görlitz. The soul of our district of Görlitz are about 250,000 inhabitants who live in 39 communities and 14 cities. These numbers sound very sober, as they say nothing about how incredibly beautiful it is in priceless land. Often one cannot stop being amazed. For example at sunrise in Kromlauer Park. When the Rakotzbrücke closes in a circle in the mirror-smooth water, your heart can already warm up. Morning grouches should be told to calm down that the sunsets in the priceless country also have their very special charm.
While the sun wanders over our homeland, this wonderful area can be experienced in all its beauty. Mountains worth hiking with a wonderful view, picturesque valleys with babbling rivers, historic towns with a time travel character, secluded forests with guaranteed mushrooms, dreamlike villages with unique wooden architecture, fairytale castles, lakes suitable for water sports and idyllic parks - the list of places worth seeing is long. Visitors are often overwhelmed with capturing everything within a few days. That's why we recommend staying here forever. Of course, the district of Görlitz not only offers a charming idyll, but also the best opportunities to realize oneself. Skilled workers receive promising perspectives and young people find a wide variety of training positions in exciting companies. In priceless land there is room for innovative ideas and traditional craftsmanship. Renowned research institutions are increasingly feeling at home here in the region.
12 arguments for life in the priceless country
It's nice in other parts of the country too and there should be nice people in other regions too. Here are twelve arguments in favor of life in the district of Görlitz.
Space for new things
We have room for good ideas, courageous entrepreneurs and creative minds. The potential to be realized is great. The range of real estate in the district of Görlitz offers what is unaffordable elsewhere.
lifetime gain
Short and traffic-free distances are typical for us. While city dwellers spend their evenings stuck in traffic jams, people here have time for their families, their hobbies, to relax and enjoy nature. Even the garden, forest and lakes can be reached on foot or by bike in just a few minutes.
Study with a seat
Studying is fun in priceless land. Family atmosphere, small seminar groups and a professor who even knows his students by name - priceless. The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is not only the easternmost university in Germany, but also one of the most popular in Saxony.
become a co-creator
We have a wide range of opportunities to be actively involved. There is good access to the mayors of the municipalities and well-connected people who want to make a difference. Voluntary commitment is a mainstay of the priceless country. Through the cohesion in the association, the places come alive.
triangle relationships
Three cultures in the heart of Europe. We live, work and celebrate together with our Polish and Czech neighbors. So we are friends. Living neighborhood without borders - priceless.
Inexpensive living
In the Unpayableland, rents are still affordable. Tenants pay an average of 5 euros per square meter. In Bavaria it is more than 9 euros. The purchase prices are about 2,000 euros for apartments and 2,500 euros for houses below the real estate prices in the state capital of Dresden.
lovable people
The people here see themselves as Upper Lusatians, Lower Silesians, Saxons, Lusatians or Sorbs and some also as granite heads. They combine love for their homeland and pride in their traditions. They are usually very down to earth, direct in their words and lovable when you win them over.
child friendliness
We have affordable and available childcare in crèches, kindergartens and after-school care centers. Working parents can balance work and family equally. In addition, the priceless country is a paradise for children. There are no limits to play, fun and adventure on playgrounds, in leisure facilities and in nature.
Grandma-Grandpa closeness
It's priceless that grandma and grandpa live right around the corner and are there for the little ones. In your own garden, on the playground around the corner or in the great outdoors, there is space to discover, play and have some adventures.
Space for future designers
The course for the future is set in the “think tanks” of the priceless country. With their know-how, engineers and scientists are developing the district of Görlitz into an attractive research location. Strategists with visions and creative doers are needed for this.
Magnet for time travelers
The special history of our homeland is reflected in numerous living traditions. Every curious step through our old towns and village centers always becomes a journey through time. The traces of the Upper Lusatia Six Towns League, which lasted almost 500 years, can still be experienced today.
time for home
Some people associate “home” with folk music or tearjerkers. In Priceless Land, you become aware of what home really means. It's a strong feeling that takes over and doesn't let go. Behind this feeling of home is an intimate connection to the landscape, to the people and to a unique quality of life.
Jeanette and Nick Kullaki | new citizen
Country love is IN
"The fact that we just got a garden and dream apartments here, exactly according to our wishes, still makes us happy." The 57-year-old Jeanette Kullak moved from Berlin to Görlitz in May 2022. In doing so, she followed her son Nick, who had “made his way over” to Priceless Land a year earlier. He ventured into self-employment at Demianiplatz in Görlitz with his shop "Das Grüne Gold", a specialist shop for hemp products. "I could neither have found nor paid for such a centrally located shop in Berlin," says the 33-year-old with certainty. It was only a logical step for him to catch up with his mother. The big city, the stress and the long distances put a lot of strain on Jeanette. In Görlitz she can finally breathe again. She made friends immediately and she helps her son organize his business. She loves spending her free time at Lake Berzdorf and growing fruit and vegetables in her own garden.

Ralf Ivan | new citizen
From Singapore to the priceless country
After studying sports management in Cologne, Ralf Iwan worked for many years in Great Britain, Arabia, South Africa, Brazil and Singapore as a trainer, lecturer and coach. A trip took him and his wife to Görlitz in 2020. They fell in love with the city and two years later moved into a house in Tauchritz on Lake Berzdorf. “We were surprised that we would find our perfect new home here so quickly.” Ralf Iwan quickly became an enthusiastic ambassador for the region. As a lecturer for international universities, he regularly invites his students from India, China, Abu Dhabi and many other countries to seminars. "For those who come from a megacity like Delhi or Beijing, this is paradise," he explains with a smile. "Like me, they appreciate the peace and quiet, nature, the quick connection to Dresden, Berlin and Wroclaw, the international location in the border triangle and the countless outdoor sports opportunities."
Weinhold family returnees
Back there
“We are really happy about our return. We have found so much here that is really priceless for us,” says Stine Weinhold happily. She and her husband lived in the Stuttgart metropolitan area for many years. With the birth of the daughter in 2017, the desire to have more time for the family grew. In 2021 they returned to their old homeland. The Weinhold family has not regretted this step for a single day. Here they now enjoy an invaluably higher quality of life and closeness to family. They were able to revive old friendships and financially they are no worse off than before. Although the net income here is about 800 euros lower, the lower costs completely compensate for the deficit. "In addition, we not only save money, but also time thanks to the short distances." That's not only the house of the grandparents, but also the school just down the street. "Maybe I'll soon be able to practice my old hobby, equestrian sports, again," says Stine happily.
